One member of the council voted against the proposal, which included the annexation of Purdue University. There have also been concerns about city services connected to the proposal. WLFI-TV in West Lafayette reports the process now enters the remonstrance phase.
There is a 90 day period that gives residents affected by the annexation a chance to petition against it.
Barring a successful challenge, the annexation will take effect in early February.
