Elkhart-based Transhield says it has landed the largest contract in company history. The more than $8 million deal calls on the company to supply protective covers for more than 4,500 military vehicles.

News Release

Elkhart, Ind. — Transhield, Inc. recently announced that it was awarded an $8.3 million contract to supply protective covers for more than 4,500 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles in the U.S. Army fleet. The contract also includes covers for 217 U.S. Navy MRAPs, U.S. Marine Corps Light Armored Vehicles (LAVs), M777 Howitzers and other critical items. It is the largest contract in Transhield's history. Marine Corps Systems Command awarded the contract.

As a result of this contract, Transhield’s protective covers, featuring patented corrosion-reduction technology, will be used to protect more than half of the U.S. Army's current fleet of MRAP vehicles, including MaxxPro, M-ATV and RG-31 variants. The U.S. Marine Corps, which has been using Transhield vehicle covers to protect their fleet of MRAP vehicles, worked closely with representatives from the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) and Letter Kenny Army Depot to develop this corrosion-prevention solution for vehicles returning from deployment or recently refurbished. The USMC Corrosion Prevention and Control Office, which is a leader in the U.S. military’s efforts to maintain its fleet of vehicles and equipment through the reduction of corrosion, will administer the contract.

“We are so pleased to be expanding the use of our protective covers to the U.S. Army’s MRAP fleet, as well as U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy equipment. This is the largest contract ever awarded for advanced protective covers, and we are honored by the U.S. military's recognition of the unique corrosion protection benefits of our cover technology,” said James Glick, Transhield’s president.

Transhield vehicle covers provide anti-corrosive properties to help extend the life and ensure readiness of military vehicles while in storage, on base or awaiting redeployment. This order is part of the ongoing effort to reduce damage caused by corrosion and environmental degradation.

Transhield custom-fit covers offer the lightweight and ease-of-use found in earlier vinyl and tarp covers combined with the durability, breathability and corrosion reduction of Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor. These covers offer protection against environmental factors including corrosion, dust, wind, rain, snow and UV rays. They are available to protect a broad range of military vehicles and equipment, ranging from generators to the M1A1 tank, tactical wheeled vehicles and amphibious assault vehicles.

Transhield protective covers are available on the GSA Federal Supply Schedule under contact number GS-02F-0103R.
