NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – Manchester University will begin a nationwide search immediately for a new dean for its College of Pharmacy to replace Dean Dave McFadden, who will assume the presidency on July 1.
The Board of Trustees selected McFadden as Manchester’s next president on Oct. 19, after accepting the planned retirement of President Jo Young Switzer, effective June 30.
“We are looking for someone who will move our program forward and continue building strong partnership in the region,” said Switzer. McFadden assumed leadership of the College of Pharmacy in November 2012. The University has a leadership profile and plan for the four-year professional Doctor of Pharmacy program, now in its second year of classes.
More than 450 qualified students from across the nation applied for the 73 seats in the second class that began coursework this fall on the $20 million north Fort Wayne campus. Recruiting for a third class indicates continuing success for the four-year Pharm.D. program, said McFadden.
Last summer, Manchester earned candidate accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), affirming that the program is expected to mature into a fully accredited program.
The rigorous pharmacy practice curriculum emphasizes patient-centered health care teamwork, communication and volunteerism. The 2-year-old building was designed for pharmacy education, with the latest in pharmacy technology and laboratories for faculty and student research. Faculty and peer mentoring are integral to the program.
The College of Pharmacy, with 30 faculty members and eight support staff, is located in the midst of northeast Indiana’s health care network, near Interstate 69 on Fort Wayne’s far north side. Manchester faculty and staff are highly engaged in the community, working and volunteering in hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and organizations. Faculty hiring continues as the College prepares for its third and fourth classes.
A Drug Information Center primarily provides timely responses for the MU Pharmacy faculty and experiential leaders, and also responds to health care professionals and conducts original research.
