Illiana Expressway Takes Step ForwardPosted: Updated:
A proposed corridor to connect northwest Indiana and the Chicago metropolitan area has landed a key approval. The Chicago Metropolitan Planning Organization's policy committee voted yesterday to include the Illiana Expressway project in its comprehensive regional plan. The proposal needed the group's support to seek federal funding. Earlier this month, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning board advised against the move, saying it would cost taxpayers more than $1 billion.
In December, the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission is expected to put the plan before its board and vote on whether to include the expressway in its 2040 comprehensive plan.
