The last section of one of the state's largest road construction projects will be complete Friday. The Hoosier Heartland Corridor, including the stretch between Logansport and Delphi, will open to traffic. Delphi Mayor Randy Strasser says the roadway will benefit employers such as Indiana Packers Corp. by providing easy highway access. He says the construction of the corridor also resulted in millions of dollars in utility and infrastructure improvements for future development. During a July interview with Inside INdiana Business Television focusing on the Stellar Communities program, Strasser touched on the impact of the new roadway. October 16, 2013

News Release

LOGANSPORT, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces the final stretch of the new State Road 25 Hoosier Heartland, between Logansport and Delphi, will open to traffic in its entirety on Friday, October 18th, weather permitting. As a result, drivers will want to plan ahead for this major traffic pattern change affecting the region.

The opening of the new Hoosier Heartland will be celebrated during a ribbon-cutting on Wednesday, October 23rd, with Indiana Governor Mike Pence in attendance. Over the past month, portions of the new State Road 25 between Logansport and Delphi have opened in phases, most notably the sections around Rockfield and Burrows. On Friday, all sections of the new roadway will be open to traffic, including those around Delphi and Logansport.

Please note: While the roadway will be open, construction continues, prompting some lane restrictions along the new SR 25 through the end of the year.

Delphi Traffic Changes:

The new Hoosier Heartland will now take traffic around Delphi, between the U.S. 421/SR 25 interchange (which opened in fall 2012) and SR 218. As a result, SR 25 truck traffic will no longer be routed through Delphi. In addition, Old SR 25 (Main Street) in Delphi will close this Friday, near Davis Lane, for about a month so crews can complete the new Main Street tie-in for the new SR 25.

Logansport Traffic Changes:

The new Hoosier Heartland will now take traffic south of Logansport. Traffic will access Logansport by way of the SR 25 (Burlington Avenue) exit. Following the opening of the final stretch this Friday (weather permitting) the new SR 25 will be a 35-mile, four lane, limited access divided highway, providing safer access from Lafayette to Logansport.

On Wednesday, October 23rd, the historic milestone will be celebrated during a ribbon-cutting at the Logansport Ivy Tech Community College campus. A luncheon will follow at the Logansport-Cass County Airport, with Governor Mike Pence in attendance, along with many state and local elected officials, and INDOT leaders.
