Two Indiana health care providers have discontinued a management agreement. However, St. Vincent Health and Monroe Hospital in Bloomington say they will continue clinical affiliations. Joseph Roche has been named chief executive officer of Monroe Hospital. October 4, 2013

News Release

BLOOMINGTON – St.Vincent Health and Monroe Hospital officials announced the continuation of specific clinical affiliations, and the redirection of the management agreement, effective today.

For the past year, the multi-hospital system and Bloomington health provider worked to create a strategic alignment to best serve the healthcare needs of the community. After careful deliberation and discernment, both entities mutually agreed to solely focus on building and developing the cardiology and orthopedic services arrangements. In addition, air and critical care transportation will be accessible for area residents.

Joseph Roche, Regional Critical Access Hospital President of the Southern Region for St.Vincent Health, will serve as the new CEO of Monroe Hospital, effective October 7. Since 2012, Roche has led the faith-based hospital system’s integration efforts with the 32-bed facility. He worked to align clinical programs, secure Joint Commission certification, establish new medical staff committees, and arrange structures and processes to ensure efficiency and the continuation of quality care.

“We are appreciative for the opportunity to have explored integration options with Monroe Hospital, and to continue our clinical partnerships to serve the residents of Bloomington and surrounding communities,” said Ian Worden, interim CEO of St.Vincent Health. “As we are committed to the region, we look forward to working closely with Joe and Monroe Hospital physicians to extend and deliver compassionate, exemplary care for patients and families.”

“We greatly value the continued relationship with St.Vincent Health,” said Brad Hollinger, Board Chairman of Monroe Hospital. “Our collaborative relationship will enable Monroe Hospital to further its mission of providing state of the art heart and orthopedic programs to the residents of Bloomington and the surrounding community. We are very fortunate to have an executive of Joe Roche’s caliber preside over the continued growth of Monroe Hospital.”

To continue the approach of mutually-beneficial partnerships, the St.Vincent Heart Center of Indiana will extend its comprehensive service offerings for Monroe County patients. Bloomington residents will have access to the nationally-rated heart program’s acute myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, vascular services, congestive heart failure, electrophysiology and thoracic surgery services.

In addition, the health system’s critical care air and ground transport program will service the Monroe County community. Bloomington patients and families have access to the hospital system’s critical care air and ground transport program, which is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS).

Last year, Monroe Hospital formed a partnership with the St.Vincent Medical Group, a multi-specialty group of primary care and specialty health providers, to bring a team of reputable orthopedic surgeons to provide care to the community. This relationship will continue as Monroe Hospital enhances its Orthopedic Center of Excellence.
