The president and general manager of the Gary SouthShore RailCats baseball team has resigned. Kevin Spudic is leaving the post after two years. The team won this season's American Association championship. September 24, 2013

News Release

(Gary, Ind.) – Gary South Shore RailCats President /General Manager Kevin Spudic has announced his resignation, effective immediately.

“I want to personally thank Pat and Lindy Salvi for the opportunity to oversee the Gary Southshore RailCats these past two seasons and wish nothing but the best for the organization,” said Spudic. “Bringing an American Association Championship to Northwest Indiana in 2013 was icing on the cake. I am extremely happy for the organization and all RailCat fans”

Spudic had just completed his second season back with the RailCats, recently crowned as the 2013 American Association champions. The longtime sports industry veteran was one of the first RailCat hires in 2002 and was intimately involved with the franchise’s startup and early success.

“We wish Kevin nothing but the best”, said RailCats’ owner Pat Salvi. “He was a valued member of our organization and I am glad that he will have a championship ring to recognize his efforts from this past season.”

The Highland, Indiana native worked for the Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Wizards, Chicago Fire, Chicago Enforcers and the Gary Steelheads before coming back to the RailCats in 2011.

Pete Laven, president of Salvi Sports Enterprises, will serve as interim general manager of the RailCats and lead the search for Spudic’s successor. Laven is a 22 – year veteran in minor league baseball operations, including six seasons as GM of the Arkansas Travelers, the Double-A Texas League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels (2007 -2012).

“We have full confidence in Pete’s ability to oversee the RailCats front office as we continue to our mission to bring fun, affordable entertainment to the Northwest Indiana region”, said Salvi. “He has been a general manager very recently and recognizes what it takes to fill that role.”Source: Gary SouthShore RailCats
