Talks to keep a major employer from leaving Fort Wayne appear to have worked. A spokesman for BAE Systems confirms the aerospace and defense contractor considered other locations, but is now looking for a new site in Allen County. The company employs more than 1,000 in Fort Wayne. Earlier this week, the News-Sentinel reported BAE was considering moving the Fort Wayne operations to another location, possibly in Ohio. At the time, the publication reported a package to keep the company in the city could be worth up to $20 million.

BAE manufactures aircraft controls and other devices in Fort Wayne. The company currently operates in a former General Electric facility that is still owned by GE.

A spokesman for Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry declined to comment.

Editor's Note: The Fort Wayne News-Sentinel first reported the potential move Wednesday.
