Indiana and Kentucky transportation officials have postponed the demolition of the final portion of the Milton-Madison Bridge. The controlled explosions in southeast Indiana were set to take place Tuesday, but are now scheduled for Thursday morning. September 16, 2013

News Release

MILTON, Ken. and MADISON, Ind. – The explosive demolition of the last remaining section of the old Milton-Madison Bridge has been moved to Thursday, Sept. 19. The 600-foot section will be brought down using controlled explosives. Because of the span's proximity to downtown Milton, businesses and residents in that area are asked to stay indoors starting at 8:45 a.m. until after the blast.

When:

9:00 a.m., Thursday, Sept 19

The new US 421 bridge and roads within the 1,000-foot safety perimeter will close starting at approximately 9:00 a.m. and are expected to reopen to traffic at or before 11:00 a.m. The blast itself should occur shortly after 9:00 a.m.

Details:

Similar to the three previous blasts, a 1,000-foot safety perimeter will be established around the blast zone. Recreational boaters are required to stay 1,000 feet from the bridge. An FAA no-fly zone of 2,000 feet will be in effect prior to and during the blast.
