MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Bethel College announces the hiring of Toni Pauls, Ph.D., for the newly created position of vice president of adult and graduate studies. She most recently served as the vice president of adult learning at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Ind., and will begin her new position on Sept. 17.
Her career achievements include growing enrollment from 300 to 1,150 as the associate vice president of academics and dean of adult degree programs at Warner Pacific College in Portland, Ore., and as chief operating officer for Northwest State Community College in Archbold, Ohio, she improved the fiscal health of the institution from 19th to third in the state. She recently served as the president of the Christian Adult Higher Education Association and is a steering committee member for the Council of Christian Colleges Universities' Center for Research in Adult Learning.
“Dr. Pauls is right for Bethel, at the right time,” says Gregg Chenoweth, Ph.D., president. “Her credentials for this position are impressive. I anticipate that our adult and graduate programs, which are already strong, will grow and thrive under her leadership.”
Pauls is no stranger to Bethel or the Michiana area. Three of her children – Charissa, Cameron and Janelle – and her daughter-in-law, Amber, are Bethel alumni and her daughter, Tessa, is a current student. She also worked for Goshen College's adult programs from 1996-2000 and served as a member of the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Goshen from 1996-2006.
“My passion for adult studies has grown out of my own experience as an adult student,” says Pauls. “My love for Bethel has grown out of my experience of watching all of my children blossom and grow during their time as students at Bethel. For me this is an opportunity to bring these two together in a wonderful way. I think Bethel has an amazing future and I am thrilled to be a part of it.”
Pauls earned a B.A. in business management and marketing from Fresno Pacific University in Fresno, Calif., in 1992; an M.A. in organizational behavior from California School of Professional Psychology (now Alliant International University) in Fresno, Calif., in 1995; and a Ph.D. in organizational leadership from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va., in 2005.
