KOKOMO, Ind. - On Monday, September 23rd, Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight will dedicate the Stephen J. Daily Government Center at 100 South Union Street in honor of former mayor Stephen J. Daily's civic contributions. In 1975 he was first elected to public office as City Councilman for Kokomo’s 2nd District. In 1979, at age 32, he became the youngest person elected to the office of mayor for the City of Kokomo. It was during his first term that Mayor Daily recognized the need for a new City Hall.

"Of the many accomplishments of Mayor Daily, the 1983 completion of City Hall stands as evidence for his vision for Kokomo and capacity for completing major projects for the benefit of the city," said Mayor Goodnight. "It is fitting to dedicate the building in his honor as Mayor Daily recognized the need and guided the process, during a tense period of economic recession, to build a new City Hall. It was a time of high unemployment, and he faced preserved while facing resistance for spending funds on such a major capital improvement project."

For the first time in thirty years, the City Hall building has undergone a major overhaul. Renovations include additions to the building's fa?ade, redesigned entrance including new landscaping, fountain and public art. A metal, spiral staircase was installed, making each of the three floors accessible to the public by stairs. The public areas of the first floor interior have a fresh, modern look with an open design that is more welcoming to the public.

The dedication ceremony for the Stephen J. Daily Government Center will be at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, September 23rd at 100 South Union Street. The public is invited.
