An Indiana filmmaker says the state needs to show stronger support for the industry to prevent talented artists from leaving. Zack Parker's “PROXY,” which was filmed in Richmond, will debut tonight at the Toronto International Film Festival. He says while Indiana is a relatively cheap place to make a movie, he does not believe the state provides enough financial and promotional support for independent filmmakers. He has shot all four of his movies in Richmond, but says he may need to leave the state for his next project.

Parker says Indiana's current film incentives require a budget much higher than most filmmakers can afford. He says the state does not currently have equipment houses and other resources needed to support a large-budget film.

Parker says the Toronto International Film Festival is one of the largest in the world. He says having an Indiana-made movie included “legitimizes” the local industry and shows a successful film can be made in the state.

“PROXY” debuts tonight at 10:00 p.m. at the Toronto International Film Festival. Parker says the movie will also show at festivals in France and Spain.
