GE Cuts Back in BloomingtonPosted: Updated:
GE Appliances says it plans to cut 160 jobs at its Bloomington refrigerator plant. The Herald-Times reports the reductions will leave roughly 365 workers at the facility. The final day for affected employees is expected to be October 31. The newspaper reports GE believes roughtly 35 percent of the reductions will be through early retirments.
The company says a drop in demand for side-by-side refrigerators is prompting the decision.
The plant was slated to close in 2010, but GE changed its mind and decided to pump $93 million into the operation and create 200 jobs.
