The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has awarded nearly $340,000 in federal funds to historic preservation and archaeology initiatives throughout the state. The money, divided among nine organizations. August 29, 2013

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Annual grants to strengthen Indiana's heritage have been awarded to nine historic preservation and archaeology projects in eight Indiana communities.

The grants total $338,812 in federal funds allotted by the DNR Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology. They will be matched by $332,636 in local and private funds, for a total projected investment of $671,448.

The federal funds come from the National Park Service, a part of the U.S. Department of the Interior, which distributes funds to the states through the Historic Preservation Fund Program. Since 1974, the state has awarded more than $18 million to Indiana communities through this program.

“Preserving our state's historic and cultural resources is a vital part of our mission,” said DNR director and State Historic Preservation Officer Cameron F. Clark. “These grants help us to explore and better understand how we got here and who we are today.”
