The interim director of the Gary/Chicago International Airport has announced his resignation, effective next month. Steve Landry had been in the position since 2010. The airport launched a search two months ago for a permanent director. The airport authority is currently looking at offers from private companies to manage and develop the facility.

In July, airport officials said the facility's $166 million runway expansion would be delayed until September 2014. They said higher-than-expected ground contamination levels forced the postponement. Former Indianapolis International Airport Chief Executive Officer John Clark is heading up that project.

Gary, Ind. — Steven L. Landry, interim director of the Gary/Chicago International Airport, resigned his position Monday, August 26 citing personal reasons. His resignation is effective September 23, 2013.

“I certainly appreciate the leadership and knowledge that Steve provided during his tenure as Interim Director of the Gary/Chicago International Airport,” said Karen Freeman-Wilson, Mayor of the City of Gary. “We wish him well as he moves on to new opportunities.”

Landry joined the staff of the airport in January 2007.

“We sincerely thank Steve for his hard work and dedication since joining the airport staff more than six years ago,” said Nathanial T. Steve’s expertise has been invaluable and his diligent leadership has helped the Gary/Chicago International Airport accomplish great things.”

Pastor Marion J. Johnson, Jr., also praised Landry for his service.

“Steve is a humble man who gave his all to the job,” said Pastor Marion J, Johnson, Jr., vice chair of the Gary/Chicago International Airport Authority. “He set an excellent example of teamwork at the airport to inspire and lead a dedicated staff to accomplish great things.”
