Ivy Tech Community College has named Brian Thomas executive director of its grants office. He most recently served as program manager for Washington D.C.-based McKean Defense Group, which has a location at WestGate Technology Park in southern Indiana. August 27, 2013

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Ivy Tech Community College announced that Brian M. Thomas has been selected to serve as Executive Director of the Grants Office. Thomas will begin his new role on August 28.

Thomas has more than 15 years of experience in private industry and the Department of Defense. His key accomplishments include identifying and providing oversight of contracts, grants, and alternative funding sources in excess of $3 million, leading the development of technology roadmaps to identify the path to future warfighter capabilities, as well as managing budgets, burn rates, proposals, contracts, staff and metrics in operations exceeding $9 million.

He most recently served as Program Manager for McKean Defense Group where he developed technology-based partnerships with industry and academia to foster innovation and long-term support. Thomas also led technology transfer branding initiatives to increase internal and external awareness of programs and services, as well as managing strategic events.

Prior to his role at McKean, Thomas served as a Program Analyst for University and Industry Relations at EG&G Technical Services (URS Corporation) where he supported Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) programs, managed the customer service help desk and metrics reporting to increase efficiency and profitability. He also served as a Logistics Analyst for the company.

He has also served as a Sales and Marketing Manager for The Bloomfield Manufacturing Company where he led day-to-day operations for sales, marketing and communications initiatives.

Thomas received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Marketing from the University of Evansville. He is a board member of ATAIN (Accessing Technology Across Indiana) and serves as treasurer of the George Rogers Clark Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association. He is also a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers and the University of Evansville Alumni Association.
