Frankfort, Ind. — Continuing to focus on his communications cornerstone, Mayor Chris McBarnes is gathering together more than 70 county and city government, school and community leaders on Wednesday, August 28 for his third Frankfort-Clinton County Leadership Summit.
“Our third Summit is yet another opportunity for those in positions of government, community and education leadership to come together to further improve our relationships with each other by becoming better acquainted and learning more about leadership and communications for the benefit of our respective groups and especially for the good of the various constituents we serve.
“Our featured speaker this time is a seasoned professional with nearly 40 years of experience in state governmental issues. As executive director of governmental affairs for Krieg DeVault LLP in Indianapolis, Mike McDaniel provides insight to the firm’s clients on governmental issues. He appears as a panelist on WFYI's Indiana Week in Review, discussing local and national current events.
“Mike previously served as Indiana Republican State Chairman, elected for a record three terms. He also served as director of governmental affairs at Ball State University and as director of the Otis R. Bowen Institute for Practical Politics. Mike has a vast amount of interesting experience with various government leaders, including former Governor Bob Orr and Lt. Governor John Mutz, having witnessed the challenges of leadership up close. He has been involved in every session of the Indiana General Assembly since 1974, so he has a great deal of wisdom and insight to share with Summit attendees,” McBarnes said.
While the August 28 invitation-only event is community leader-focused, the event will be recorded and posted on the City Web site (www.frankfort-in.gov) by noon on Thursday, August 29 for interested residents.
Those invited to the Summit include Clinton County Council; Commissioners; County Circuit Court Judge; Sheriff; Planner; Surveyor; Treasurer; Auditor; Coroner; Emergency Management Agency Director; Chamber Executive Director; Community Foundation President; Purdue Extension Educator; area school superintendents; school board members; City of Frankfort Clerk-Treasurer; City Council; Board of Works; presidents of the Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals and Redevelopment Commission; Utility Service Board and Utility representatives; Main Street President; City Attorney; Fire Chief; Police Chief; Street Superintendent; Building Inspector; Parks Superintendent and a representative from the Department of Homeland Security.
“Building strong relationships that lead to positive partnerships can be particularly challenging. Opportunities for area leaders to be with each other, spend time and learn together can go a long way in building familiarity and trust. In each of our respective leadership positions, we are obligated to do our individual and collective best to deliver clear, concise and consistent communication while addressing the challenges of leadership.
“These Leadership Summits are designed to help all of us do just that. My long-term goal is that effective and efficient communications and leadership come to the forefront of all of our minds as we perform our duties for the individuals, families, businesses and groups we serve in Clinton County and Frankfort,” McBarnes explained.
