August 23, 2013 (INDIANAPOLIS) — Policy decisions taking place in Congress have a tremendous impact on Hoosier businesses. The Indiana Chamber of Commerce is encouraging organizations to take an active role in these conversations by attending the group’s annual Washington D.C. Fly-in event on September 18-19.
Participants have the opportunity to speak with their representative and senators during a panel discussion, moderated by Gerry Dick of Inside INdiana Business, and at a sit-down dinner. Day two features visits to congressional offices to continue the dialogue.
“This is a great event that gives the Hoosier business community a unique opportunity to interact with members of the Indiana Congressional delegation. It’s a chance to discuss a range of important issues and to learn firsthand what is happening on Capitol Hill. It is a valuable experience that also happens to be a lot of fun,” says Chris Cerone, vice president of global government affairs for Zimmer Inc. in Warsaw.
Another highlight is a breakfast briefing on effective advocacy strategies presented by two speakers from FaegreBD Consulting: Dave Zook (chair) and former California Congresswoman Mary Bono (senior vice president).
New this year, the Indiana Chamber is partnering with several local chambers to present a unified voice. Six local chambers so far have committed to bringing a number of participants from their communities.
“It is important to be able to review vital issues with our congressional leaders. It is also a great opportunity to build relationships with members of Congress and their staff,” explains Cam Carter, Indiana Chamber vice president of economic development and federal relations.
Cost for the event is $149 per person. Each attendee is responsible for his or her own travel and lodging arrangements.
