Officials with the city of Anderson are proposing a new Ivy Tech Community College campus be located downtown, instead of the spot previously announced by the college. Our partners at The Herald Bulletin report Ivy Tech's ongoing plans for the campus involve a location near I-69. The publication says the city has been working since early spring to get the school to think about looking elsewhere.

Anderson is offering two alternatives. One is in a former shopping center and the other is a location Mayor Kevin Smith says would save Ivy Tech on development costs, compared to the present plan.

The city estimates it would cost more than $8 million for the location close to the interstate, while the paper reports Ivy Tech East Central Region Chancellor Andy Bowne believes infrastructure costs would total about $1 million.

He adds that final state approval is slated for the end of next month if the school is to be open by its 2015 target.
