Chrysler Makes Major Donation to YMCA

Chrysler Group LLC has donated $500,000 to the Kokomo Family YMCA. The organization says the funding will support construction of a new multi-million dollar downtown campus.

The Kokomo Family YMCA is $500,000 closer to the multimillion-dollar construction of a new downtown campus after a generous donation from the Chrysler Group LLC, the YMCA announced today.

The Chrysler Group LLC made the half-a-million dollar gift to the YMCA's Beyond the Bricks fundraising campaign, confirmed YMCA Executive Director Dave Dubois.

"I am extremely pleased that Chrysler shares the YMCA's commitment to our community by making this generous gift," said Dave Dubois. "This donation helps advance downtown Kokomo's largest redevelopment project, and we are confident it will have a significant impact."

The Kokomo Family YMCA plans to build a new 73,000-square-foot facility, as part of a major downtown redevelopment plan. Additionally, the City of Kokomo plans to build a four-story parking garage on a city-owned lot across the street from the proposed YMCA campus.

"Chrysler's endorsement of the YMCA project further demonstrates their commitment to the redevelopment of Kokomo into an even greater city," said Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight. "I am confident this major gift will help ensure that the new YMCA will be the kind of place our residents have demanded."

August 15, 2013, Kokomo, Ind. - Chrysler Group LLC today announced a donation of $500,000 to support the Kokomo Family YMCA's planned new facility. The new 73,000-square-foot building, to be located in downtown Kokomo, will offer area residents more amenities than the current YMCA including a health and wellness center, double gymnasium, an indoor running track and a lap pool.

As the largest employer in Kokomo, Chrysler Group and its employees have established a legacy of community support that includes volunteerism, providing financial support for charitable initiatives, and creating jobs through its facilities.

In February, Chrysler Group announced an investment of nearly $374 million to boost its transmission production and add about 1,250 new jobs in north-central Indiana, making it the largest transmission installation in the world. Overall, the Company has confirmed investments of more than $1.6 billion in Kokomo for production of the eight- and nine-speed transmissions as well as various other process improvements at all four area facilities – Kokomo Transmission, Kokomo Casting, Indiana Transmission I and Indiana Transmission II.

Additionally, The Chrysler Foundation, the Company’s philanthropic arm, announced grants in May totaling $50,000 collectively to United Way of Howard County and the Tipton County Foundation to assist residents affected by flooding.

Chrysler Group currently employs more than 6,600 people in Kokomo.
