Senior Housing Planned at Former Mall SitePosted: Updated:
A $14 million elder care facility is planned for the spot where a northern Indiana mall once stood. Carmel-based Mainstreet Property Group is developing the proposed South Bend community, which will offer nearly three dozen assisted-living apartments and 70 nursing rooms. The project is expected to open next July.
It will be constructed where the North Village Mall, demolished in 2010, used to be.
Late last year, the company announced a series of projects throughout the state, including a $60 million initiative to develop facilities in Kokomo and the greater Indianapolis area.
The company is teaming up with facilities manager, Iowa-based Life Care Services LLC, which opened a similar operation in March in Wabash.
