City, Nonprofits Aim to Resurrect 'Steamboat Days'Posted: Updated:
A southeast Indiana festival that ended a more than 20-year run in the late-1990s could be getting another chance. The News and Tribune in Jeffersonville reports the city and nonprofit leaders are working to bring back "Steamboat Days" next year, which would coincide with a major riverboat celebration in Louisville. The Kentucky city is set to honor the 100th anniversary of the Belle of Louisville, which is one of the longest-running steam-powered boats in the world. That celebration is slated for mid-October, 2014.
Paul Ogle Foundation Inc. is attempting to raise $300,000 to kick-start the project. It is planning a dollar-for-dollar matching program for up to $150,000.
The mayor believes Steamboat Days will once again become an annual event.
