Benner: Brickyard Still a Boon For IMS

Posted: Updated:

Inside INdiana Business Sports Contributor Bill Benner says, despite a perceived lack of buzz around this year's race, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway continues to make money during its annual NASCAR event. He says a solid sponsorship and television packages have made the Brickyard race a success. He discussed Sunday's Samuel Deeds 400 at the Brickyard during an interview to air this weekend on Inside INdiana Business Television. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced a multi-year deal with Crown Royal Whisky in 2011 to be the title sponsor for the Brickyard 400. At the time, speedway leaders said the partnership was a natural fit because of the high number of race fans in Crown Royal's customer base.

This year's race is named after Samuel Deeds, a retired U.S. Marine who was severely injured in Iraq while saving others from an improvised explosive device.

Indiana University graduate and ESPN SportsCenter anchor Sage Steele will drive the pace car to lead the field to the green flag at this weekend's race.
