Fort Wayne, Ind. — Indiana Tech is proud to welcome Paul Chodak III to the university's Board of Trustees.

Chodak is president and chief operating officer of Indiana Michigan Power (I&M), an operating company of American Electric Power (AEP) headquartered in Fort Wayne, Ind. Chodak was appointed to his current role in 2010 after serving as president and chief operating officer for Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO), an operating company of AEP that serves customers in Louisiana, Arkansas and northeast Texas.

Chodak attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute on a Naval ROTC scholarship where he graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He went on to serve more than seven years in the U.S. Navy as a submarine officer, earning numerous commendations and completing both submarine and chief engineer officer qualifications. He also earned a master’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Upon leaving active duty, Chodak was awarded a Department of Energy Fellowship to study nuclear engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned a doctorate in 1996. He then went on to conduct research on technology and policy issues concerning nuclear power and proliferation risks as a staff scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Chodak continued his service as a Naval Reserve Officer until he resigned his commission as a Lieutenant Commander in 1998. He completed MIT's Reactor Technology Course for Utilities Executives in 2011. Chodak is a Project Management Institute certified Project Management Professional.

In addition to the Indiana Tech Board, Chodak is a member of the Board of Directors of the Indiana Energy Association and a member of the board for the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of the Regional Chamber of Northeast Indiana, the American Nuclear Society, and the Sigma Xi Research Society.
