Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne has named women's volleyball coach Kelley Hartley Hutton interim director of athletics. The school says it will form a search committee to find a permanent replacement for Tommy Bell, who is leaving for a similar job at Western Illinois University.

News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind.—Kelley Hartley Hutton, head women's volleyball coach at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), has been named interim director of athletics, effective August 1, 2013.

Tommy Bell, director of athletics, will leave IPFW this summer to assume a new position as director of athletics at Western Illinois University.

“Kelley's leadership in Athletics and her stewardship as head coach of the women's volleyball program make her a trusted resource for our university,” said Stan Davis, interim chancellor for financial affairs. “Her administrative experience, guidance, and talent will serve us well through the transition period.”

Kelley Hartley Hutton recently completed her 14th season at the helm of the women's volleyball program. Her 296 wins from 1999 to 2011 makes her the winningest coach in program history. Hartley Hutton also previously served for 12 years at IPFW as senior woman administrator and associate athletic director.

2012 was another great year for the Mastodons as the team ended the season with a 25-7 record which included a trip to the NCAA Tournament. IPFW won the Summit League Championship Tournament with a 3-0 sweep over top-seeded IUPUI.

A graduate of the University of Toledo, Hartley Hutton played four years with the Rockets, serving as team captain during her junior and senior years. She earned an M.S. in sports administration from Bowling Green State University, while working at the Mid-American Conference office. After completing a one-year NCAA internship with the MAC, she was appointed to a full-time position. Hartley Hutton came to IPFW in 1999 after serving one year at Robert Morris University, taking that program through a rebuilding time.

“I am excited for the year ahead in IPFW Athletics, coming off our best season both academically and athletically under the leadership of Tommy Bell,” said Hartley Hutton. “Our department is poised to thrive and move forward serving student-athletes and competing at the highest levels of success on and off the playing field.”

A search committee will be formed to select a new director of athletics.
