A panel of experts will take part in a forum this afternoon on college attainment among minority students. The event is part of the Indiana Black Expo Education Conference in Indianapolis. Monument Lighthouse College Prep Academy Principal Jagga Rent will be a panelist and during a Studio(i) interview says educators must acknowledge current strategies are not working for all students. The academy is located in Indianapolis.

He says a common misconception is that students at-risk of not seeking higher education “don't want to learn.” Rent argues that it's up to institutions to “change the bait” when students aren't engaged.

He tells Host Gerry Dick his school aims to reach children with an “arts-infused” approach. Curricula are geared toward teaching the major subjects through theater, dance and music.

After one year at the school, Rent says these techniques have led to an increase in some standardized test scores.
