A Gary native's plan to launch a brewery in his hometown has received zoning approval from the city council. 18th Street Brewery Founder Drew Fox tells Inside INdiana Business he hopes to have a small-batch operation running in the Lake County city this year. He eventually intends to employ five workers, including paid interns that will work with packaging and merchandising.

The company recently wrapped up a Kickstarter campaign that raised more than two times its initialy goal of $18,000.

Fox spent time in Belgium researching beer-making and barrel-aging techniques.
