INDIANAPOLIS (July 15, 2013) – Honda Manufacturing Indiana, LLC (HMIN), Honda’s fourth U.S. auto plant, is WGU Indiana’s newest corporate partner. The partnership between HMIN and the state’s only exclusively online, nonprofit university will benefit HMIN employees who seek to complete their bachelor’s or master’s degrees.
“Honda Manufacturing of Indiana is proud to work closely with WGU,” said Honda Manufacturing of Indiana HR representative Angela Topper. “We believe in their innovative education model, providing adults with affordable and flexible degree programs, which will positively impact our workforce and the economy.”
As a benefit to this new partnership, HMIN employees will receive a five percent tuition discount at WGU Indiana for four terms. Honda employees who live outside of Indiana are eligible for the same tuition discount through WGU Indiana’s parent institution, Western Governors University. Eligible programs for Honda partner benefits include those in WGU Indiana’s College of Information Technology and College of Business. Tuition at WGU Indiana has remained at a flat rate of about $6,000 per year since the school’s inception in 2010.

We will continue to seek partners like Honda that believe in the importance of employee growth and development through education.”
WGU’s innovative, competency-based education model, which earned the university a spot in Fast Company’s 50 Most Innovative Companies of 2013, measures learning rather than the time a student spends in a classroom seat. Students earn their degrees by demonstrating mastery of subject matter, completing coursework online at any time convenient to their lives. Designed to meet the needs of adult learners, competency-based education allows students to take advantage of prior learning and experience to move quickly through material they already know so they can focus on what they still need to learn.
