Eli Lilly and Co. (NYSE:LLY) has chosen Plainfield, west of Indianapolis, as the site for a major drug warehouse and distribution facility.
Lilly says it could ultimately invest $80 million in moving its distribution center from Indianapolis to Hendricks County and more than doubling its size.
The center will distribute Lilly drugs nationally and globally and employ about 75 workers with average annual salaries of $55,000. The Plainfield Town Council has approved tax abatement for the project.
Lilly spokesman Ed Sagebiel says the expanded warehouse and distribution facility is needed to handle the company's growing pipeline of drugs.
