Lafayette-based Oerlikon Fairfield is planning to lay off 150 workers. The manufacturing company attributes the decision to a sluggish global economy. A smaller number of workers is being placed on voluntary, temporary leave.
The Journal and Courier in Lafayette reports those workers should be back on the job later this year.
The plant currently has about 1,000 employees.
The operation manufacturers gears and other drive components.
