INDIANAPOLIS – October 25, 2012 – Bicycle Indiana is pleased to announce that four Indiana businesses have been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as Bicycle Friendly.
Summit City Bicycles and Fitness, Fort Wayne, IN earned a Silver award as a Bicycle-Friendly Business; Angie’s List and A1 Cyclery, both headquartered in Indianapolis, were designated as Bronze Bicycle-Friendly Businesses and DePuy Orthopaedics, Warsaw IN, was also awarded the designation of a Bronze Bicycle-Friendly Business.
Evansville’s Deaconess Hospital and Lincoln Financial Group of Fort Wayne earned honorable mention as a Bicycle-Friendly Business.
These entities join a visionary group of more than 400 local businesses, government agencies and Fortune 500 companies across the United States on the Bicycle Friendly list.
“Of the 61 businesses named ‘Bicycle-Friendly’ in the fall 2012 awards, four of them are in Indiana,” said Nancy Tibbett, executive director of Bicycle Indiana. “We’re excited to see that trend and momentum grow.”
Bicycle Indiana is a nonprofit membership organization that promotes safe bicycling; educates bicyclists, motorists and policy-makers; and advocates for laws, policies and infrastructure to increase bicycling in Indiana.
Last summer, Bicycle Indiana and the Indiana State Department of Health hosted a “Planning for a Bicycle-Friendly Community” seminar in nine communities around the state.
“Being named a bicycle-friendly community or employer allows you to say ‘We’re progressive and we care about health, fitness, the environment and livable communities,’” added Tibbett.
