A group led by IndyCar Series founder Tony George continues its effort to acquire the open wheel circuit. Sports Business Journal is reporting the group has submitted a seven-figure offer to take over the series. Hulman & Co. owns IndyCar and officials have repeatedly stated it is not for sale.
SBJ reporter Tripp Mickle told Inside INdiana Business in the past month that the group has hired a high-powered lawfirm to help with the bid.
His updated report, published Friday, says several current team owners have been approached to be part of the group.
George oversaw the merger of the Indy Racing League and CHAMP Car series four years ago.
He resigned a year later and was eventually replaced at the helm of IndyCar by current Chief Executive Officer Randy Bernard.
