News Release

Construction on a $6-million aquatic recreation center at Prophetstown State Park will kick off on Monday, Oct. 15, with a groundbreaking ceremony.

The groundbreaking starts at 11 a.m. and is open to the public.

The center is expected to open next summer. Its features will include a 30-foot tube slide, a body flume, a lazy river float area and adventure channel, a zero-entry pool with play features, and an aquatic activity area with basketball. A bathhouse will have showers, changing areas, restrooms and a concession area.

“This project is going to blend the best of modern convenience with the history of this unique park, making it an even more attractive repeat destination for both travelers and local residents,” DNR director Robert E. Carter Jr. said.

The aquatic center will have a low profile so that it is compatible with the park’s prairie landscape. Landscaping around the center will feature glacial boulders typical in the park, prairie grasses and other native plants.

Graphic renderings of the facility, designed by Schmidt Associates, will be on display at the groundbreaking.

The aquatic center is expected to employ 18-22 lifeguards during the summer.

Prophetstown State Park is at 5545 Swisher Road, West Lafayette, IN 47906.
