An Indiana startup says its technology can light the way to better cancer treatment. As first reported in the Inside INdiana Business Life Sciences e-newsletter, Purdue Research Park-based On Target Laboratories is developing a way to illuminate cancer cells during surgery. The technology will allow doctors to see exactly where the cancerous tissue is and more easily remove it.
The concept is from Purdue University biochemistry professor Philip Low. His previous discoveries led to the creation of Endocyte Inc. (NASDAQ: ECYT). That West Lafayette company is developing targeted biopharmaceuticals to treat cancer.
On Target Laboratories has licensed the cancer cell lighting technology from Endocyte.
Phil's brother, Marty Low is the chief executive officer of On Target Laboratories. He believes the technology will "level the playing field" by illuminating cancer cells as small as one-thousandth of a millimeter.
