Nobel Prize Winner to Speak in Fort Wayne
Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi will speak today in Fort Wayne. Suu Kyi was a key figure in the non-violent efforts for democracy in Burma and spent more than 20 years as a political prisoner in the Asian nation. Our partners at Indiana's NewsCenter report organizers are expecting thousands to attend the event.

Suu Kyi helped form the National League for Democracy in 1988, and was placed under house arrest by Burma's ruling junta in 1989. She remained in custody until 2010.
She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991, but was unable to accept in person because she was still under house arrest. Her husband Michael Aris and sons Alexander and Kim accepted the award on her behalf. She is currently a member of the Burmese Parliament and the chairperson and general secretary for the National League for Democracy.
Suu Kyi will speak at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne Tuesday morning. The speech will be delivered in Burmese with an on-screen English translation.
