Cook Keeping Founder's Vision Alive

 Lessard says Bill Cook was big on projects that didn't solely depend on the bottom line.

Leaders at Cook Medical Group say a new facility in Illinois is helping keep the legacy of the Bloomington-based company's late founder strong. Cook is celebrating the $19 million tubing manufacturing facility today in Canton, Illinois, the hometown of Bill Cook. Cook Polymer Technology Vice President David Lessard calls it a big opportunity for the company to bring some technology in-house that it had been purchasing for more than four decades.

He says very few places in the world manufacture the material that will be produced at the Illinois facility.

He says based on current projections, the plant will eventually employ around 60.

The facility has been in the planning stages for the past few years.

Another Cook official told Inside INdiana Business this week the company has future U.S. expansion projects on hold because of the medical device tax currently included in the Affordable Care Act.
