The Indiana State University Foundation is planning to dedicate a statue of basketball legend Larry Bird in the fall of 2013. Terre Haute artist Bill Wolfe will design the sculpture, which is being funded in part by an anonymous donor.
The school says the dimensions of the planned project will make the Larry Bird Statue taller than its Magic Johnson counterpart at Michigan State University. A spokesman says Wolfe will use multiple images from the ISU archives to create the sculpture.
The student organization that initiated fundraising efforts for the statue has also proposed a "Larry Legends" scholarship. The school says it is optimistic that Bird will be supportive of the effort.
