Fishers to Host Firefighter Competition

Fishers, Ind. -- The Town of Fishers will host for the first time on August 3 and 4 the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge, presented by IU Health Saxony Hospital. This national event commonly known as “the toughest two minutes in sports,” which promotes the physical fitness of firefighters, will make its first stop in Fishers and is expected to draw 5 to 10 thousand visitors.

“We welcome the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge to Fishers with open doors and hope this becomes an annual tradition in our community,” said Fishers Town Council Member John Weingardt. “To promote the physical fitness of area firefighters, while providing entertainment for the whole family is an outstanding benefit to our community.”

Firefighters participating in the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge will be competing in a five-evolution event, which includes a 5-story tower climb with high-rise pack, hose hoist, forcible entry, hose advance, and victim rescue. Competitions shall include individual, team, tandem, and relay. Firefighters will vie for times, points, and placement qualifying them for the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge World Challenge, to be held in November 2012.

There will also be a Kids’ Firefighter Challenge that targets youth from ages 4 to 11 and is a miniaturized version of its adult counterpart. Friday night entertainment will include food vendors, a beer garden, and live band “Big Daddy Caddy” performing at 8 p.m. The event is free to spectators.
