The South Bend City Council is scheduled to hold a final vote on a city wide smoking ban this month. Members discussed the proposal during a meeting Monday, with some raising concerns about city businesses losing customers to nearby areas that do not have smoking restrictions.
Our partners at Fox 28 in South Bend report the final vote is set for June 25.
If the measure moves forward, it would be approved just before a statewide smoking ban takes effect July 1.
The South Bend restrictions would include bars and taverns. Some council members are concerned regular customers would be able to still light up at bars just outside the city limits, driving business away from South Bend establishments.
