International Economic Expert to Speak in Madison

The president of the International Economic Development Council will speak this month in Jefferson County. Jeff Finkle will discuss current economic trends in the U.S. and around the world during the appearance next week in Madison.

MADISON, IND. – - Advance Madison Jefferson County (AMJC) presents a free public event featuring the President of the International Economic Development Council, Jeff Finkle. He will discuss his experience in economic development, the programs and methods he has seen work successfully, and the current trends he is seeing in the United States and around the world. The presentation will take place Wednesday, April 17, 2012 at the Venture Out Business Center in the quaint, quiet river town of Madison, Indiana. The event is free and open to the public. Networking is from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with presentation and conversation at 7:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required for the event due to seating limitations and only requires name, email address. The public may submit questions or comments they would like Mr. Finkle to address when they register. Questions will also be accepted during the presentation..

Advance Madison Jefferson County Committee member and Regional Director of the Southeast ISBDC, Blayr Barnard, has worked the last six months collaborating with a variety of state and national groups, universities and individuals to bring speakers that could make a strong impact on the community and region. Barnard commented, “I am excited that our kickoff speaker for this series is such an important person in economic development. Mr. Finkle leads the IEDC, which is the most well respected Economic Development certification program world wide. It is recognized internationally for advancing economic development.” Warren Auxier, Advance Madison Jefferson County Initiative Steering Committee Chair, said, “Blayr, her committee and the Southeast ISBDC have done an outstanding job bringing such an important and informative economic development professional to the Midwest. Advance Madison and Jefferson County is proud to host the first in a series of four community presentations about community and economic prosperity.” Future topics for presentations and conversations include: “Economic Trends: National, State and Local”, “Strategic Doing: Implementing Growth for Your Community”, and “Community Leadership.”

The presenter for the evening, Jeff Finkle, comes with over 30 years of experience in economic development as the current President and CEO of the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). Included in that 30 years, Finkle has been a former Deputy Assistant Secretary in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, CEO of the Association of Defense Communities and founded the non-profit organization, Bollinger Foundation. With strong ties to the Midwest, Finkle is a leading expert in economic development and in a previous interview was quoted, “Leaders in economic development will always need to be creative and innovative in their approaches to getting things done. The solutions are not just sitting on a shelf somewhere to be pulled off and used.
