IPFW Exchange Program Set to Begin

Four faculty members from China will spend the rest of the academic year at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. The group is from Hangzhou Normal University and part of the IPFW-HNU Faculty Mentor Program. The instructors teach biology, computer science, educational studies and English\linguistics.

News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind.¡ªThe first faculty exchange between Indiana University¨CPurdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) and Hangzhou Normal University (HNU) in Hangzhou, China, begins later this month when three faculty members are expected to arrive in Fort Wayne, Friday, January 20; one more will follow in early February. The exchange is the result of the IPFW¨CHNU Faculty Mentor Program in which four faculty members, one each from the departments of Biology, Computer Science, Educational Studies, and English and Linguistics, will come to IPFW for one academic year.

Director of International Education at IPFW, Brian Mylrea, says the spring and fall 2012 semesters will be busy for the HNU faculty.

¡°Activities during the spring 2012 semester will include classroom observation and working with the IPFW faculty mentor to provide guidance in terms of curriculum development, teaching methodology in English as the medium for instruction, and possible team-teaching in the mentor faculty's class sections. Activities during the summer 2012 term will include continued collaboration with the faculty mentor, possible teaching of courses, if available and appropriate, and work on individual research. The fall 2012 semester will have the HNU visiting faculty serve as the primary instructor of one or two class sections under supervision of the IPFW faculty mentor.¡±

Professors Wa Zhou, Yi Li, and Zhengwei Yao will arrive January 20 with their first working day on campus Monday, January 23. Professor Nongnong Shi is expected to arrive on or before February 6.

While they are taking part in the program, the HNU faculty will live in IPFW Student Housing.
