Indianapolis Realtors Report Increase in Home Sales

The Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors is reporting an increase in home sales from August through October, compared to the same period last year. MIBOR says the 2 percent hike is the first positive increase since it started tracking by rolling quarters in February 2008. The organization also says the average and median sales prices increased over the three month period.

INDIANAPOLIS — Homes sold, pended units and average sale price were on the rise during August to October 2009. During the three-month period ending on Oct. 31, home sales climbed to 6,929, which is a 2 percent increase from the same three-month period in 2008. This represents the first positive increase since MIBOR began tracking by rolling quarters in February 2008.

Sales price, both average and median, also increased during the three-month period. Average sale price increased 1 percent while median sale price increased 2 percent.

Additional key local findings:
-Pended units continued to rise with an increase of 14 percent when compared to the same three-month period in 2008

-Total sales volume for the market increased 3 percent when compared to the same three-month period in 2008

-Months of available supply continue to decrease for homes priced under $75,000 up to $350,000

-Months of supply, regardless of price point, were down to 8.3 months in October 2009 compared to 9.9 months in October 2008

-New listings during the August to October 2009 period decreased by 6 percent from the same period in 2008
