SallieMae recently announced it gathered 80,000 signatures in support of its efforts to revise the federal student loan proposal.

Executives from Sallie Mae will make a pitch to federal lawmakers this week for changes in a proposal to overhaul the student loan system. The student loan company has hundreds of workers in Fishers and Muncie and feels the proposal in Washington, D.C. could lead to the loss of those jobs. President Barack Obama's bill to put the government in charge of student loans has already passed the House.

Supporters of that proposal say the aim is to make the loans cheaper and higher education more affordable.
Sallie Mae Senior Vice President Jon Kroehler believes the government may be able to provide lower interest rates, but the private sector can provide more efficient loan servicing.
Sallie Mae officials from Indiana aalong with the mayor of Munice and the Fishers Town Council president will travel to Washington Thursday to make their case to Senators Evan Bayh (D) and Richard Lugar (R).
