A Columbia City-based manufacturer of industrial cutting tools has a new owner. Oak View Tool will become a sister company of Ohio-based SGS Tool Co. Oak View officials say the acquisition will allow its products to reach a global market.

COLUMBIA CITY (August 5, 2009) - Locally based Oak View Tool announced today that it is now part of Ohio-based SGS Tool Company.
"Oak View Tool will now be a sister company to SGS Tool, the global leader in production of carbide cutting tools," said Oak View Tool president Matt Dahms, "This relationship will provide Oak View Tool with a global reach and SGS Tool with a local gateway to the orthopedics industry."
Oak View Tool Company LLC, formerly known as Oak View Tooling Inc, was founded by Matt Dahms in 1996. The company has seen impressive growth during its thirteen year history: relocating to its current facility at 724 E Swihart Street in Columbia City, completing a building addition there in 2006 that tripled its floor space, and growing to twenty employees.
SGS Tool Company was founded in 1951 by three partners in a small Akron garage. The company has grown to become one of the largest producers of solid carbide endmills and burs in the world with additional production facilities in England and Ireland. SGS Tool now has sales offices in eight foreign countries and sells to customers in over sixty countries through a network of industrial distributors.
The primary markets serviced by SGS include automotive, aerospace, medical and power generation. The new affiliation with Oak View Tool will further entrench SGS in the medical market with a focus on orthopedics.
