Most ArcelorMittal employees who were laid off at Indiana Harbor East when the company idled production have been called back to work. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the steel maker is planning to restart a blast furnace July 20, but ArcelorMittal is still planning to temporarily idle production for its bar company at the facility. Those employees are facing layoffs this month.

Production at the bar mill is being idled because of a lack or orders. Many of the items from the operation are used in the automotive industry.
Up to 400 employees are affected, but the union hopes a number of those workers will be utilized by the neighboring Indiana Harbor West facility.
