Dozens of eighth-grade girls will get the chance Friday to learn more about career opportunities for women in commercial real estate. The Indianapolis chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) will spend the day with girls from the KIPP school in Indianapolis. The professionals will show the girls a downtown property, the former Coca-Cola Bottling Plant on Massachusetts Avenue, and help them create their very own commercial real estate development project.

The program is meant to help get more women into the traditionally male-dominated field.
Indianapolis, In – February 8, 2008 – IndyCREW of CREW Network (Commercial Real Estate Women) is teaching teen girls and young women across North America about careers in commercial real estate through an interactive program called CREW Careers: Building Opportunities.
CREW Careers™, was developed by CREW Foundation, the philanthropic arm of CREW Network, and is designed to encourage more women to pursue careers in commercial real estate, typically a male-oriented profession.
In Indianapolis IndyCREW will hold their inaugural year event for girls attending Indianapolis’ KIPP School. This all day program will involve several components. After a pre-program day of touring several development and redevelopment projects around downtown Indianapolis, the girls will have the opportunity to plan a redevelopment project based upon the existing former Coca-Cola Bottling Plant on Massachusetts Avenue. Their lessons will include the incorporation of various real estate industry jobs and processes with a presentation of their redevelopment ideas to a panel of Indianapolis business leaders. Several activities throughout the day will include presentations from IndyCREW members and a tour of the facility.

“CREW Careers™ is about teaching girls that they can pursue careers in commercial real estate just as easily as men and there are significant opportunities,” said Andie Friedman, a local spokesperson for the chapter.
The CREW Careers™ program was launched in Dallas in 2004 and taken across North America in 2005 by CREW Foundation in conjunction with CREW Network’s Industry Research Initiative, which was the first measure of the progress that women are making in commercial real estate. In 2008, CREW CareersTM will grow to 28 cities throughout North America to reach more than 1,200 student participants. Students cited engaging role-playing and hands-on interaction with female business leaders as the key to the program’s success.
2008 CREW CareersTM national sponsors include KeyBank, McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., NAIOP and the Goodman Foundation.
