INDIANAPOLIS-Aug, 28 2006-Polymer Technology Systems Inc., a privately held company that delivers point-of-care diagnostics to the global health care market, announces today that the company's CardioChek(R) consumer whole blood chemistry analyzer is now available at Wal-Mart stores throughout the United States.
Until now the meter was only available for consumers online. Wal-Mart and PTS have agreed to an initial distribution arrangement whereby CardioChek will be available in approximately 1,200 U.S. Wal-Mart stores. The analyzer will retail at $99.94, with accompanying PTS Panels(TM) Total Cholesterol test strips priced at $11.94 for a package of three tests.
PTS and Wal-Mart are building on a multi-year relationship that has allowed in-store cholesterol screenings of over one-million individuals. The new over-the-counter availability of CardioChek and test strips allows consumers to monitor cholesterol levels whenever they choose and in the privacy of their own home.
"There are nearly 107 million Americans with high total cholesterol, which puts them at increased risk for stroke, coronary artery disease, and heart attack," says CEO Robert Huffstodt. "With more consumers managing their own wellness, the accessibility of the CardioChek monitor over-the-counter at Wal-Mart meets a growing need, providing an economical and easy way for Americans to monitor additional key health indicators."
CardioChek is a hand-held analyzer used with PTS Panels Test Strips to measure specific whole blood indicators related to heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic conditions. Home users simply insert the color coded test strip and accompanying MEMo chip(TM) into the meter, add a small amount of blood (about 15 micro liters), and test results are displayed within two minutes.
The CardioChek system also saves the reading for comparison the next time the user tests. It is programmed with six language choices: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese. Additional PTS Panels Test Strips for the CardioChek consumer analyzer are available online and include HDL cholesterol, ketone, triglycerides, and glucose.
