Indiana University professor Herman Aguinis has been elected president of the Iberoamerican Academy of Management. The organization focuses on management theory and practice with an emphasis on the Latino community.

Bloomington, Ind. -- Herman Aguinis, the John F. Mee Chair of Management and the founding director of the Institute for Global Organizational Effectiveness at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, has been elected president of the Iberoamerican Academy of Management.
The Iberoamerican Academy of Management fosters the advancement of knowledge in management theory and practice with a particular regional emphasis on Iberoamerica, which is defined broadly to include all of Latin America, Latino populations in North America, and Spain and Portugal.
Last year, Aguinis -- who also is a professor of organizational behavior and human resource management -- was honored by the Academy of Management with its Research Methods Division Distinguished Career Award.
"It is a great honor and a privilege to be able to serve the Iberoamerican Academy of Management as its president," Aguinis said. "This is an exciting opportunity that I will use to further strategic goals of the Iberoamerican Academy as well as the Kelley School of Business and IU regarding diversity and globalization, among other issues."
Founded in 1997, the Iberoamerican Academy of Management -- an affiliate of the Academy of Management -- publishes a journal, Management Research, and organizes international conferences and a professional development workshop during the annual meetings of the Academy of Management.
Aguinis was elected as president earlier this month at the organization's international conference in San Paulo, Brazil. Its next conference will be in Santiago, Chile, in 2015. He will lead the organization for the next three years.
Aguinis is an expert in the fields of organizational behavior, human resource management, and research methods and analysis. His research is interdisciplinary and addresses human capital acquisition, development and deployment.
He has published five books and has written more than 110 refereed journal articles and about 40 book chapters, monographs and other publications. He has delivered more than 200 invited presentations at professional conferences and at universities in the United States and worldwide, including in Argentina, Australia, China, France, Malaysia, Peru, Singapore, Spain and South Africa.
He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. He was inducted into the Society of Organizational Behavior and the Society for Research Synthesis Methodology.
Other recent recognitions and awards include the Academy of Management Entrepreneurship Division IDEA Thought Leader Award in 2011, and the Academy of Management Research Methods Division Robert McDonald Advancement of Organizational Research Methodology Award in 2009.
In addition to his academic activities, Aguinis has consulted with organizations in the U.S., Europe and Latin America. In 2006, he was appointed by the U.S. Department of State to serve a five-year term on the Board of Examiners for the United States Foreign Service. He earned his Ph.D. in 1993 in industrial and organizational psychology from the University at Albany - State University of New York. Before coming to Kelley in 2009, he held the Mehalchin Term Professorship in Management at the University of Colorado Denver.
