Fort Wayne Set For Curling Championship

A national curling event is planned for next week in Indiana. Dozens of teams from throughout the country are expected to participate in the inaugural United States Curling Association Arena Club National Championship in Fort Wayne.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne Curling Club, the Lutheran Health SportsCenter, and Visit Fort Wayne are proud to host the inaugural United States Curling Association Arena Club National Championship July 18-21 at the Lutheran Health SportsCenter. The public is invited to watch the championships which are free and open to the public. (See schedule below)

The USCA Arena Club National Championship is a new event introduced this year by the United States Curling Association, the national governing body for the sport of curling and a USOC organization. The tournament is designed to identify the best team of curlers in the United States that curl in an arena environment.

The tournament will consist of 32 teams and 145 players from around the United States, including three teams representing Fort Wayne (Team Fountain, Team Freeman and Team Lampkins). Other teams hail from:

The event will be held at the Lutheran Health SportsCenter, 3869 Ice Way, Fort Wayne, IN 46805. The facility boasts excellent off-ice viewing facilities upstairs at the Thirsty Penguin restaurant and bar. The event is open to the public and admission is free. The times of the event are:

Thursday, July 18, 9:30 am 10:30 pm
Friday, July 19, 9:00 am 10:00 pm
Saturday, July 20, 8:00 am 11:45 pm
Sunday, July 21, 9:00 am 2:30 pm

The finals for the event will be held at 12:00 pm noon on Sunday with a short ceremony preceding the finals.

The event will be streamed live on the Twelfth End Sports Network (www.tesn.us), a site specializing in the web streaming of curling events throughout the United States.
