Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says the hotel would act as a catalyst for further development.
The city of Evansville has taken a major step toward building a much anticipated downtown convention hotel. The city's redevelopment commission has voted in favor of opening negotiations with a Missouri-based developer. HCW Development LLC was selected over two other companies.
Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke tells Inside INdiana Business construction could begin as early as this summer.
The developer has worked on similar-sized projects in Branson, Missiouri and Manhattan, Kansas.
The new hotel would be located next to the Ford Center and Winnecke says it will get Evansville "back in the game again" for state and regional convention business.
